The Benchmade 491 is a newly introduced folding knife that unusually combines the AXIS lock with a flipper opening tab. While this configuration appears unconventional, it allows for quick and convenient deployment. The knife features Benchmade’s signature AXIS Lock system, enabling smooth one-handed opening and closing with a secure lockup that helps prevent accidental blade closure during use.
Designed primarily for everyday carry (EDC), the 491 has a compact overall size. The blade is made from CPM-20CV steel and features a spear-point profile with a single edge and a drop-style tip, offering balanced piercing and cutting performance. It is suitable for common cutting tasks such as paper, cord, and other relatively soft materials.
The handle is constructed from 6061 aluminum alloy with machined grooves for added visual detail. The handle butt includes provisions for reversible pocket clip mounting. The blade is finished with a coating, while the aluminum handle is anodized in red or blue. Overall, the knife has clean lines and a refined appearance, making it suitable for both daily carry and collection purposes.
